BRENTWOOD — At the end of a quiet cul-de-sac on Craig Court, a battle has been brewing over a neighbor’s choice to fly a Confederate flag and all the controversy freedom of speech brings.

The cul-de-sac is connected to the public sidewalk that runs along Garin Parkway and is a common walkway for students from Garin Elementary School and Edna Hill Middle School.

Eric Harvey remarked that his decision to fly the battle flag of the Confederate Army of Northern Va. was to educate the public and particularly students passing by about the history of the flag.

“I expected a lot of backlash from it, but it’s been nothing but excellent” Harvey said.

Article length: About 470 words.
